We know that the Onslow Village community want to reduce the amount of ‘stuff’ we all have.
Onslow Village is a place of adequate plenty, and many of us have loads of tools, much of which are rarely used. We cannot keep consuming goods at the rate we currently are if the planet is to survive, and the need to reduce our consumption of ‘stuff’ is starkly apparent with the COP28 achieving little.
One answer to the issue of ‘too much stuff’ is to share things that we only occasionally need.
The OV Toolshare Club within the Onslow Village community is one answer to many people’s need for tools that are needed for one specific job and not needed again.
Tools like power drills, spirit levels, electric hedge trimmers and strimmers to name but a few are available to be shared on this site between Onslow Village residents allowing a small but local reduction in the buying of ‘stuff’.
It’s very simple – the club just puts people who need to borrow a tool in touch with people who have tools they are prepared to lend out.
This website lists the tools available together with the contact number for the person who is willing to lend them. You phone them and arrange to borrow what you need.
All tools are kept at the members’ homes so they are all within Onslow Village. We don’t charge but in the unlikely event of a breakage you would be expected to at least share the cost of repair.
You don’t need to have tools to share, although it’s nice if you do.
Its free to join and we only need to know your name, Postcode and phone number. Only your Phone number is shared with other members. When you have been approved you will be sent access to the toolstore itself. Non-members can’t see it.
By joining OV Toolshare you indemnify OV Toolshare from any liability regarding the lending or borrowing of tools under the scheme.

Guildford Repair Cafe
Passionate about reducing the number of items going to landfill in the local area, the Guildford Repair Café offers a free repair service on the second Saturday of every month from 10am – 12 noon at The Hive Community Centre, Park Barn Drive, GU2 8EN
Everyone is welcome and we usually have a range of repairing skills, from electricals and IT software questions to sewing and bike repairs. We only repair small items (so no washing machines!) and we don’t promise we’ll be able to fix everything but we’ll give it a good try. You can also get a free tea or coffee, and there’s usually a range of tasty snacks baked by our volunteers.
If possible, it’s best for people to let us know in advance that they’re coming so we can make sure we’ll have the right sort of repairer there on the day. If you have an item to repair, or you’d like to volunteer your repairing skills, find us on Facebook or email repair.cafe.guildford@gmail.com
