WI Talk – The story of vaccines – Jenner to the mRNA Covid vaccine by Dr Ian Goodall

Before vaccines life was nasty, brutish and short with a life expectancy of 20 – 30 years. Vaccines have done more than anything else to extend life expectancy. Ian explains how Jenner developed the very first vaccine, against smallpox, through Louis Pasteur’s work on cholera and rabies, through to the most modern mRNA vaccines.

We are a group of women who love meeting up to enjoy presentations from a wide range of speakers on many different topics as well as art/craft activities; dance evenings; flower arranging; games/social evenings etc!
In addition to our monthly meetings, we organise regular coffee mornings, tea afternoons & pub evenings as part of our social calendar. We also enjoy several trips out during the year.
New members are always welcome, you can attend your first meeting free, after which you would need to join. Membership from 1st April 2026 for a year is set at £54 with a pro-rata rate for new members joining later in the year.
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month (except for January) in Onslow Village Hall 7.30pm – 9.30pm.
