SUMMARY:WI Talk - The Women's Police Service in the Great War by Nigel Crompton
DESCRIPTION:During the Great War\, women police services emerged as a response to the war effort and concerns over public morality.  Founded by suffragettes organisations such as the Women’s Police Service trained women for roles in policing\, often in and around factories\, railways stations\, and military areas. \nTo see this year’s programme of Wednesday night activities click here \nWe are a group of women who love meeting up to enjoy presentations from a wide range of speakers on many different topics as well as art/craft activities; dance evenings; flower arranging; games/social evenings etc!\nIn addition to our monthly meetings\, we organise regular coffee mornings\, tea afternoons & pub evenings as part of our social calendar. We also enjoy several trips out during the year.  \n \nNew members are always welcome\, you can attend your first meeting free\, after which you would need to join.  Membership from 1st April 2026 for a year is set at £54 with a pro-rata rate for new members joining later in the year. \n \nWe meet on the first Wednesday of each month (except for January) in Onslow Village Hall 7.30pm – 9.30pm.\nIf you would like to visit us for a free taster evening or would like any more information\, please email us on: OnslowVillageWI@outlook.com\n
